5 Christmassy things to do in Galway!

I love Christmas! To be honest, I love the build up to Christmas more than the day itself! The lights, the mulled wine, the shop windows……I love it all! Galway comes alive at Christmas, so I decided to put together a list of 5 things to do in Galway to give you the christmassy feels!

Once it gets dark, take a walk from the West end, up through the Latin Quarter, through Shop Street and into Eyre Square. The Christmas lights are the nicest they’ve ever been in the city! Grab a coffee, take a walk and admire all the beautiful lights and decorations! A sure way to get into the Christmas spirit!

2. Visit the Galway Christmas Market

Located in Eyre Square, the Galway Christmas Market is a mix of stalls selling food, drinks, crafts and decorations! The Beer Tent is the centre point and always has a great atmosphere! Worth a visit for a stein of beer or a hot whiskey! The new addition of the Ferris Wheel makes for an impressive skyline!

3. Mulled Wine in the Meyrick

The Meyrick Hotel, located in Eyre Square, is impressively decorated and is a focal point in Eyre Square! They serve Mulled wine in the lobby, where you can sit back, relax by the fire and admire the beautiful tree and gingerbread house.

4. Festive afternoon tea at The G

The G hotel serves a festive afternoon tea each day from the 25th of November to 8th January. They serve delicious sweet and savoury treats with a choice of tea, coffee or cocktail! The G is beautifully decorated in it’s own uniquely stylish way and a perfect place to spend a Christmassy afternoon!!

5.Watch a classic Christmas movie at the Town Hall Theatre

Every year, the Town Hall Theatre show a classic Christmas movie. This year they are showing the 1951 Version of ‘A Christmas Carol’. It’s screened in a festive atmosphere with refreshments served beforehand!  Booking is advised as it’s only shown on one day!
